EALD

EALD (English as an Additional Language or Dialect)

Challa Gardens Primary School students come from many different cultural backgrounds providing rich diversity in our school. We promote and celebrate our cultural diversity by spreading understanding, tolerance and respect.

EALD support is provided for students who speak another language at home and are not meeting the English achievement standards of their year level. This may be in-class support or as part of a learning intervention program. The English curriculum is explicitly taught with gaps in EALD students’ understanding of English addressed. Teachers monitor progress of EALD students annually using the Department for Education LEAP levels.

Interpreters can be made available if required.
